3 Key Strategies to Survive Your Summer Trip!

What comes to mind when you think of healthy nutrition while you’re traveling?

If you’re like most people, you might be wondering “isn’t that an oxymoron?”

That’s because we’ve all been there before. When on vacation it’s usually a food free-for-all.  You’re either starving or completely uncomfortable because you ate too much at the restaurant.

There’s a better way…

I’m here again this week sharing time-tested strategies that have worked for myself and many clients.

It’s no secret that without a plan, traveling of any kind will derail your nutrition (and usually pack on those few extra pounds you were dreading). Usually you get “hangry” when you are traveling because you’re pressed for time or wait too long to eat.

To make things worse, it seems like there are delicious temptations around every corner…and darn it, you’re on vacation. We’ve all experienced it...

Cleaner Foods to Thrive...

Why should we avoid food chemicals, food additives, and food preservatives?

Additives such as flavors, colors, sweeteners, and hydrogenated oils, emulsifiers, and other additives have been used for many years in the American food industry.

They are added to improve the appearance, flavor, packaging, processing, and shipping of the food we eat on a daily basis.

Your detoxing machine...

The human body is a detoxing machine, but the current volume of food additives is creating toxicity within the human body that results in inflammation and leads to headaches, skin disorders, and many, many more symptoms.

It's up to your liver to address this, your liver is an amazingly strong organ, but it's important you give it detoxification power using whole-food nutrients.

Food for thought...

How much of your current food budget are you spending on processed and packaged food and more importantly, what does the ingredients list say for these products?

All packaged food is not bad, but...

Drink water to boost brain function!

Do you struggle with getting the volume of water you need (a.k.a. drinking half your body weight in ounces…daily!)? I get it, the struggle is real!

This is one of the most common things people tell me in my practice, “I don’t drink enough water!”

With up to 70% of your body being water, there’s no question that it plays an important role in your health. It transports nutrients and helps to flush toxins from your body. It also balances your body’s temperature, lubricates your joints, and provides structure to your internal organs, tissues, and cells.

All of this while also aiding in cardiovascular function and weight management. In fact, research shows that your heart actually works harder if you’re not drinking enough water. The reason is that your blood becomes thicker when there is less liquid in your body, and your heart muscles must work harder to pump your blood through the circulatory system.

Yup! Water's extremely important!

84 million American's have this, do you?

According to the CDC, over 84 million Americans now have prediabetes. What’s scarier is that nine out of ten of them don’t even know they have it. yup, that's correct nine out of ten don't even know they have it. Are you one of them?

If left untreated, it can lead to heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. However, the exciting part is that prediabetes can often be stopped before it becomes diabetes...or even reversed.

Prediabetes occurs when your fasting blood sugar (glucose) is higher than normal but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. It’s usually diagnosed from a finger-stick test called Hemoglobin A1C.

You can get it from your local pharmacy or by working with your medical practitioner. The test measures the amount of hemoglobin with glucose (sugar) attached. The more attached glucose, the higher the number on the test.

The American Diabetes Association provides the following general guidelines for A1C levels:

  • Normal –...

The “10% Secret” to Enjoying Your Donuts MORE!

Over the weekend, I was sitting at a salon waiting while my son got a haircut.

Behind me on the window sill there was a box of delicious smelling, to-die-for donuts.

Well, slowly each woman in the shop (customers too) came by and grabbed a donut.

This isn’t the surprising part, because who doesn't want a warm morning donut, right?

What surprised me (but makes a ton of sense) is that each woman said something out loud…justifying why they were eating the donut.

"Oh it's Friday, I'm having this" as they slowly opened the box and chose their donut with precision.

Other's said things like “I've eaten pretty healthy, I'm having one!"

…Or even "the fat girl never says no to a donut."

In today’s video, I want to dig into what these women were doing and what you can learn from it that will not just improve your health, but help you to enjoy donuts MORE.

A blessing for your acid reflux, a curse for your health

Why acid-reflux medications are a “blessing” to your pain but a “curse” to your health...

A lot of the clients I see have had issues with acid reflux and are taking Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) like Omeprazole for acid-reflux.

These medicines work great to help with the symptoms, but it comes at a cost to your nutrition that you should be aware of.

In today’s video, I’ll explain how these medicines affect your ability to absorb nutrients from the food you eat.

I’ll also talk about how you can use food to help you solve the underlying problem so that you don’t have to rely on the medicines as often…or at all.

A SUPER-common eating mistake (with a SUPER-easy fix)

Before my nutrition practice, I worked in corporate wellness, and I was darn good eating a salad in the car, while I was driving all over the city.

Yeah, I know…dumb and very unsafe!!

But my day was so booked that I only had enough time to drive from one client location to another….and this created a frantic lunch situation.

You ever have one of those?

Anyway, here’s the problem…I was eating healthy (salad vs. PB&J), but I was making one HUGE mistake that was leaving me drained and keeping me from getting the benefits of eating healthy.

In today’s video, you’ll find out what I was doing wrong (it’s something that’s CRAZY-common, so there’s a good chance you are doing it every day even though it’s easy to fix).
